Illustrated alphabet book created especially for premature babies

A Very Special A-Z (a few weeks ahead) is an alphabet picture book, written and illustrated by myself. It is all completely inspired by my personal NICU experience with our son Leo, when he was born 12 weeks premature back in 2019. Each letter of the alphabet celebrates a triumph, achievement or milestone that come with the challenges of being born early and are all illustrated with cute characters and positive messages throughout.

When Leo was born prematurely, it turned our world completely upside down and inside out. Prematurity is not what most parents-to-be expect when they are having a baby! It is both mentally and physically exhausting and can often be an extremely long journey. You focus so hard for so long on just getting home all together, that you don’t realise the post-hospital journey can be just as difficult too, as you slowly begin to process what you’ve been through. Which is why I created this book. A way to turn what can be a powerless experience into an empowering memory. Premature babies are serious fighters, as are their parents and the journey they go on together should be celebrated! A Very Special A-Z (a few weeks ahead) is a celebration of how strong they are to get through everything and a memento a parent can read and read again with their little one, so one day they too will come to understand just how special their start in life really was. It may not be the beginning anyone would hope for, but it sure is one to be proud of.
